As a potter, I am drawn to the subtle details I observe in nature, such as the way a leaf is
connected to its stem, the variation in ripples of water, or the tones of shadows and filtered
light. Firing my wheel thrown stoneware in a soda kiln reveals variation within the
textured and carved surfaces. With each firing, I anticipate the reactions between the clay,
slips, wood ash, and soda. By preserving my reflections of nature into clay, I hope
to bring an awareness to these details in the everyday use of my functional pots.
